oxfords1 You're preaching to the choir. I've owned 6 Airedales and 1 Scotty. Yes very easy to train due to their intelligence but once they're trained it's a gamble as to whether they'll obey or not. Mine are spectacular in potty and house manners. Despite the obedience classes I can never guarantee if they're going to come when called. However since I love the breed and I love that about them it's no problem for me. I would never own another breed cept airedales and scotties but they're not for all. 06/09/2009 - 19:18:56
aleashacasaretto To keep their wiry coat free of mats, Airedales require regular brushing, and also clipping and trimming every few months. 05/30/2009 - 23:12:12
moonmaan they are headstrong but you can train them cuz they are often very smart dogs-but all terriers tend to have lots of energy and drive One of our airedales ate a good portion of the side of a couch on another occasion ate a bunch of the front seat of a Peugeot sedan but my latest never went into the garbage (cuz she was a lady) until she was 10 or 11 years old. And was easy to train, she just had a hard time obeying sometimes (my fault) for instance she loved jumping in puddles! Best dog ever 05/26/2009 - 08:41:53
moonmaan I disagree we had a couple airedales and never stripped them-my last one had the softest hair ever. Neither of them had skin problems-clipping is fine for any dog as long as you do it properly Stripping is different-if you keep up the look that stripping gives the dog, you have to do it pretty often to have a short coat. We didn't clipp my dog all the time, we let it get long 05/26/2009 - 08:33:36
oxfords1 In addition terriers are not for everybody. If you want a dog that comes when called and sits and stays very pretty an Airedale is not for you. I've adopted a few Airedales that have been severely abused because of it. You need patience and a sense of humor with these dogs. my husband and I found it hilarious when our leon, climbed on the table and ate half the thanksgiving turkey.the rest of the relatives were miffed. that's the only thanksgiving that i'll remember because it was hilarious. 03/11/2009 - 12:37:00
oxfords1 What a sweetheart!!!! I've been owning Airedales forever now. I'm on my 5th and 6th. I've never stripped mine and they've never had skin problems. I do keep them flea free with frontline & I feed them this food which has no preservatives,No soy, wheat, gluten or corn. California Natural. it's all human grade & has only 3 ingredients. In addition they get a set of vaccines and not all at once when they're babies & they only get rabies every 3 years. they get titers instead of shots every year. 03/11/2009 - 12:30:52
boss122334 Every breed shed to some extent, even poodles. Even Humans shed. NO breed is truly for the allergenic, "hypo" allergenic means "less likely to cause allergies" not non allergenic, it can depend on the breed too, some might be allergic to Poodles, but not allergic to Airedales, and the other way around. People are also allergic to the dander or saliva, again which every breed has. So in order to find if your allergic to ADT's, your going to have to spend some time with them. 01/27/2009 - 23:23:06
lilies101 i have an airedale too 11/22/2008 - 22:33:44
smatyk ADTs aren't truly for the allergenic - they have a soft undercoat which does shed. You end up with 'dust bunnies' all over the place. I am the biggest ADT fan ever, so I don't want to seem like I'm putting them down - they're just not the same as poodles who truly do not shed at all. With ADTs, you'll still have fluffy bits all over the place ... unless you do a full-monty grooming every single day, which would be great but no self-respecting ADT would ever put up with. 05/03/2008 - 23:05:39
laokoonda This dog is ever hand-stripped and never clipped. Only looks like. Now,for example, is accurately hand-stripped with the hand-maded trimming and loks like it must be. Soon I will post the new image of my doggie - You´ll be surprized :) 05/03/2008 - 22:41:33
smatyk Doesn't the person who does your dog's grooming ever do his ears? And it doesn't look like your dog gets hand-stripped - and you should know that clipping is NOT a good thing for an ADT's coat and skin. 05/03/2008 - 21:00:31
Maktrech i want a dog like that .. damn 04/28/2008 - 04:37:30
laokoonda Thanks! We're famous now :) 03/31/2008 - 23:28:47
laokoonda That's right, these dogs are non-allergic. As for exercise - 2 hours daily are sufficient, but if You can - more and more and more - the Airedale likes play, run and makes the life of his master's more active. Recommended for anti-depressive therapy and other similar sicknesses 03/31/2008 - 23:27:43
dogbreedforum Nice video, I've added it to our forum 03/31/2008 - 10:47:38
