the Traditional Japanese akita Inu, is not what the AKC recognizes.. Which is sad, doesnt give credit to the origin of the breed for what they truly are. The Traditional Akitas only come in 3 colors Red and white, White, and Brindle. I had a traditional red and white female for 13.5 years. She was the best dog i ever owned, i wont get another breed of dog. Sticking with Traditional. |

@webcasey1
well there is colour like that in the Japanese ones but it is considered a fault, American Akitas have alot more tossa in them which is why the American Akita has a much bigger and more Mastiff like look. |

@QSilva Many backyard breeders are breeding the two breeds not realizing that these two amazing dogs should be kept separate and respected as individuals. Although I disagree with a lot of show breed specifications since they can cause health issues and don't focus on working temperament (and physical ability to work, looking at working vs show basset hounds is sad); breed diversity and historical background are important to preserve! MAINLY for working dogs and their specific jobs + temperament |

This looks to me like a American Akita, Not an Japanese Akita. Since Japanese Akita is not Allowed to have brown around the nose, only White |

Read the Akita split reports before posting comments like this. There Is a reasons why JKC split the akita's.
And by the way the AKC does not have the authority to split the breed It is up to the ACA!! (akita club of america) |
