We have shaved our Aussie for years now. We purchased high end clippers and cut him 3/4 inch short every spring to help with the heat of summer. His coat grows back to its original beautiful thickness every year. |

@spd2549 Huh, I don't see why you wouldn't. If I remember correctly- I was told that some long haired dogs tend to have heart problems? (Not sure if that's accurate or completely true.) Honestly it's just a weather decision in the long run. Is it really hot during the summer where you live? Obviously you shouldn't buzz them to the skin but giving them a very short cut helps them out. |

@akirayato Depends on the dog, I have seen some pretty stupid border collies before, but then again I have seen some amazing ones. The Same goes for Australian Shepherds. They are both known for being very, very smart dogs. |

@akirayato for me a shepherd is smarter they are going to test your limits and if your not careful they take over
a border collie is a soldier always want to work always does what he is told |

@bilpayne Oh yeah, we shaved our Aussies when the summer came around. Short cut for the heat does wonders.. Must be hell with those thick coats they have. |

@bilpayne Take a visit to the vet! Diet can also heavily effect any dog but my mother bred over three generations when I was growing up and it seems to effect Aussies pretty hard as well. (I could be completely wrong here because I'm not an expert and only know through experience but..) Males are generally more relaxed from what I've seen, and tend to have greater health issues. Females have the least health issues and are usually more energetic.
Still, food is a large issue to check up on. |

I love my Aussie "EMO" She has been so easy to train, and unbelievably smart. She can even open the front door with a thumb lever and let herself in and out. She is not a handful in the apt ether, i think most people that have issues with restlessness just don't take them outside enough. Hand a leash by the door and they will put the two together in a day or so, and from then on they will just go touch it and tell ya, hey i want to go do something. That easy. GET AN AUSSIE |

I agree with Stubtaildogs2, my 2 Aussie's love to be outside but they also LOVE to be inside "with their humans". If they had their choice, (and they do) they'd be wherever I am. MSLarissa724 probably lives in the country. Rural type people have similiar thinking. |

My aussie pup Lila is soooo stubborn and untrustable. Also, she doesnt really like treats, so I can hardly train her. How should I teach her to be good and do agility? |

The wife and I have an Aussie that also has Lab and Husky in her, she is 3yrs old, and as of now, she still doesn't like to heal with the leash, is the the introduction of the lab and husky that makes her this way? |

@MsLarissa724 do not shame someone without knowing THEIR DOG. I have an Aussie that stays inside whenever I am home, which is a good portion of the day. He is one of the most laid back, relaxed dogs I have ever met and Ive been around quite a few. As a matter of fact I am having to work at building drive in him, hes always been this way. He is very healthy and fed a good diet. Dont lump all Aussies in one catagory for u dont know them all. Thank u |

They are inside dogs, but require LOTS of outdoor activity and exercise. Shedding could be diet, temps, lack of grooming....Good Luck |

@MsLarissa724 Well we have a fenced in backyard tht he runs around & plays in alo.t He just doesn't like to stay out there all day or at night so we allways bring back in when he starts to stand at the frech doors & whine because he's tired of staying out or thirsty or sometimes he just doesn't want to stay outside. So tht's why we keep him inside most of the time |

@EinaudiRulez Are you kidding me, your talking about an australian shepherd. you should never, ever keep an aussie inside for more then a few hors they are way to energetic for that...shame on you |
