God, you trained him well! My female pinto Akita is soooo stubborn! So far she has only learned to sit :P
BTW, isn't it great their heads are so black you can barely see their little eyes? :D |

Not dumb, just stubborn. If they don't want to do, you will not make them. period. |

They also have reduced pack bond, they bond very strongly to their leader but are very independent and don't live for the constant approval. This causes training obstacles - the bore easily because of their intelligence. most of the test of dog intelligence seem to under count them. Mine learn on his own how to open every door in my house, open the latch on his create among other things. My first one taught himself how to put the electric widows in the car up and down. |

Very beautiful. I have a 14 month old white Akita Inu. They truly are stubborn, and I think mine is a little dummer than some. But I love him to death. Great tricks! |

YES!!! you definitely need to be educated about this breed BEFORE you buy or rescue. My husband and I have taken him on walks in public every 3-4 days where he can socialize and experience everything since he was 8 weeks old...do this and you'll have a very good Akita indeed :) |

Phillip -- I wouldn't call Akitas hard to train, but you need to make sure you educate yourself about the breed before you get one. Talk to some experts, do some research online (AkitasdeMcLeod, right here on YouTube, is an excellent resource) and learn about the Akita. Akitas are actually easy to train because they're so intelligent, but that intelligence can also crossover into stubbornness...and even arrogance. Feel free to message me for more info. |
