A representive (often more than one) of this Majestic breed has had me wrapped around their paw since 1974. I can't fathom 'being owned' by another breed. As for the debate about intelligence, given my lengthy history with the breed and Nine Hounds, I think I can clear it up. They are NOT stupid---they are fiercly independent and obstinate and essentially don't give a damn about "lowering" themselves to a 'run', 'fetch', 'make mommy or daddy happy' level of other breeds. Much more cat like. |

@derbiester Afghan Hounds are among the most intelligent actually. The "dumbest" dogs are the ones that were bred with no purpose other than to be companions (such as pomeranians or chihuahuas). Afghans are sight hounds therefore they are highly intelligent.
Afghans are hard to train because they are haughty and independent like cats. That has nothing to do with intelligence. |

Who proved these dogs as dumb. When, way.? What studies were prduced that showed that these dogs are the dumbest. I don't see one dumb thing about them, and just because somebody says that they're dumb doesn't make them dumb. |

I have had 5 afghans, when you get the twich of this dog, no one else matters. I have all of them with me at all times, paintings, urns etc.
my last one ramses, 7 years, right now sleeping in my 18th century sofa, remade just for him.
